I would like to: 

 The Herberger Institute offers discounts to seniors and to ASU students, faculty, staff and alumni for most of its events. Also, all Herberger Institute students, faculty and staff are eligible for complimentary tickets to each event.

Complimentary Ticket Policy

The Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts supports the practice of offering complimentary tickets to the Herberger Institute faculty, staff and students to performance events where tickets are sold. Such tickets are offered in compliance with federal, state, university and institute regulations as per the policy specifics below.

  1. Tickets may not be requested at the door..
  2. Herberger Institute students must reserve their tickets in person at the Galvin Box Office Wednesday–Friday 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. or Saturday 2–4 p.m. Students may also request by using the online request form at http://studenttickets.hida.asu.edu/. This page will require each student to “Log in” in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Herberger Institute faculty/staff may come to the box office during the above posted hours or make an email request to hiboxoffice@asu.edu prior to 5 p.m. the day of the performance or one day prior for a Sunday performance. Specify your name, the event title, day, date and time. An online request form for faculty and staff requests is provided.
  4. Each Herberger Institute unit will provide the ticket office manager with an alphabetized list starting with last name first. Separate lists should be provided for faculty/staff, docents and cast/crew.

Who is eligible for complimentary tickets?

Who is eligible for complimentary tickets?

  1. Student participants in any ticketed production of Dance, Lyric Opera Theatre, Organ or Theatre may receive two complimentary tickets per night for the run of the event. Herberger Institute students who are not participating in the production may receive one complimentary ticket per event although there are exceptions.
  2. Herberger Institute faculty and staff from the schools of Art; Arts, Media and Engineering; Dance; Music; Theatre and Film; The Design School; the ASU Art Museum; and the Herberger Institute Dean’s Office may receive two complimentary tickets to any ticketed event sponsored by the institute in one of its venues (see below venue list).
  3. A Herberger Institute academic unit may exclude certain events from this policy. In this case, Herberger Institute faculty, staff and students may possibly be eligible to receive a 20% discount off the ticketed price. 
  4. Personnel involved with the production (excluding performers) who are required to attend more than one performance as part of their duties, may obtain additional tickets by contacting the appropriate person in their department who will authorize additional tickets to the ticket office manager.
  5. Choreographers receive two complimentary tickets per night for the run of the event.
  6. Playwright/directors receive 2 complimentary tickets per night for the run of the event.
  7. Faculty performing in an event may request 10 tickets for peers and guests. A list must be submitted by email to the ticket office manager.
  8. Prospective Herberger Institute students should make complimentary ticket request to Sunny Kuo (sunny.kuo@asu.edu), director of student recruitment and admissions.
  9. Herberger Institute emeritus faculty requests are to be directed to the ticket office manager.

Are there any exceptions?

  1. The dean, school director, their designees and the ticket office manager may make exceptions to these policies on a discretionary basis. Examples could include recruitment, prospective donors and development fundraising and other advancement efforts. All requests of this nature must be emailed to the ticket office manager stating the purpose.
  2. Units that establish school partnerships that serve both a pedagogic purpose related to their curriculum and as a service to the community may designate complimentary tickets.
  3. To suit the educational purposes and needs of our students determined by the department chair or director, a request may be made to "paper" the house in consultation with the ticket office manager.

Any Herberger Institute event taking place at ASU Gammage Auditorium is handled by their box office staff. The policy may be subject to change.
