Faculty Associate in Music – School of Music, Dance and Theatre

School of Music, Dance and Theatre

The School of Music, Dance and Theatre music program on the Tempe campus at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in: music learning and teaching, music therapy, musicology, music theory, music performance, and in popular music, which might include applied instruction, ensemble direction, music product development, music production, and/or music industry.

 

These positions are one semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include:  preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes). 

 

The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

 

Anticipated start date is: Fall 2024, session A, B and/or C

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field + 4 years of industry experience; a Master’s degree in relevant field, by time of appointment + 2 years of industry experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved

  • MM/MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment
  • Professional experience and/or teaching in one or more of the identified disciplines 
  • Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Knowledge of local and regional disciplinary ecosystem
  • Demonstrated experience developing curricula
  • Creative Activity/Scholarly research interests and achievement as demonstrated through performances, presentations and/or publications

The application deadline is May 8, 2024. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool.  Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until the position is filled.
