Description:

The ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre seeks an innovative artist-teacher of clarinet who will participate in our effort to reimagine what arts education means in the 21st century. This appointment will be full-time tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, DOE, beginning in Fall 2023.  This position will be on the Tempe, Arizona campus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will be committed to educating outstanding performing musicians, teachers, music therapists, and scholars. Additional teaching duties will include clarinet-related courses such as repertoire, pedagogy and chamber music ensembles. The candidate will pursue a continued performing career and contribute to the musical life of the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. Further responsibilities include recruiting a diverse cohort of clarinet students regionally, nationally and internationally, mentoring and assisting students towards their professional goals, and working effectively with faculty colleagues and administration in service to satisfy and advance the school’s mission.

Desired Qualifications (the successful candidate will demonstrate one or more of the following): 

• International recognition in creative activity and scholarship.
• Demonstrated expertise teaching and/or developing courses in clarinet pedagogy and clarinet repertoire.
• Commitment to, and record of, development of new repertoire for the clarinet through commissions, premieres and recordings.
• Demonstrated expertise coaching woodwind chamber music and directing clarinet choir;
• Ability to teach courses on woodwind physiology and/or ultrasonographic study of woodwind articulation.
• Record of successful grant writing and/or funded research applications.
• Sustained record of engagement with the community.
• The ability to work and collaborate across artistic disciplines, with people outside the arts, across campus, and in the community, including interdisciplinary creative activity within and outside of the arts. 
• Demonstrated efficacy in developing/delivering online courses, teaching in a hybrid format or development of websites and/or online course resources.
• Secondary area of expertise or knowledge such as music education, research methods, grant writing, or music production. 
• Experience in teaching in or interacting with secondary school and community college music programs.
