Open Studios

The Art Grads (TAG) is pleased to announce their event titled Open Studios at Grant Street Studios March 17–18. TAG is the student organization representing the Graduate Master of Fine Arts candidates at ASU. The 4th Annual TAG Open House event, held in conjunction with Artlink’s Art Detour in downtown Phoenix, invites the local community to view the work of ASU’s emerging professional artists and meet the artists as they demonstrate their techniques and processes.   

ASU’s MFA graduate artists working in Grant Street Studios will have their studios open and will be available to talk with visitors. During the event, all three of Grant Street’s galleries will host shows. Featured in Step Gallery will be Cydnei Mallory’s MFA Thesis exhibition. Interested in materiality, Mallory uses everything from cast metals, rope, and basic fabrics, to hairnets, silicone, and hair. Combining traditional and non-traditional practices in her work, Mallory uses the body as a reference to explore issues surrounding stereotyped ideas of gender, sexuality, and class. On Sunday, Mallory will be an artist talk in the gallery. In the Side Gallery, located adjacent to the Step Gallery, there will be a pop-up show and red tag sale with small works for sale. The Northlight Gallery, located the north-west of the Studios, will also be open to the public during the event. 

Additionally, artist demonstrations will be held throughout the event. These demonstrations invite to public to learn about a variety of exciting art-making processes, and purchase these handmade items. In addition to last year’s popular 3D Computer Body Scanning demo, featured art demonstrations include Indigo Dyeing, Printmaking, Ceramics, and Cyanotype processes.

Grant Street Studios’ Art Detour events are free and open to the public thanks to the ASU Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA).
