Bio: Ron Broglio is a field marshal of the animal revolution. The revolution will not be televised nor tweeted but its modalities are alive for those who have ears to hear, eyes to see. His job is to help us to attune to the nonhuman modes of being and to help us comport to these other worlds. Broglio is also a professor of British literature, co-director of the Institute for Humanities Research at Arizona State University and director of Desert Humanities.
Abstract: In an exploit, a hacker finds a weakness in the operating system’s defenses and uses this opening as a portal to entry. Shifting from computers to biological systems, the animal revolution finds a hole in our cultural system which works so hard to keep us away from the corporality of the earth on which we live. Animals exploit this opening where culture has failed to sheath the physicality of our bodies. This talk will explore technological estrangement from our bodies and animals rupturing the technological and civil systems to remind us of a more-than-human world. Where is their hospitality for designing, thinking and living with a world of animals and animality?
