In the Moment Opening Reception
In a world full of technology, social media and online cultures it is hard to find the time and space to live in the moment. Moreover, no one is stranger to the fact that our modern lives have been categorized by dramatic change and social unrest. From the ever-lingering COVID-19 pandemic to the dramatic news alarms constantly blowing up our phones discussing potential wars, natural disasters, or global protests, our lives can feel disordered.
Therefore, as artists, we have a responsibility to occasionally slow down our daily lives and savor the ever-changing world in front of us. We must notice the precious and fleeting details of even a mundane scene. We must document our emotions and experiences within large moments of historical change. In the present it’s important we look back on past memories and confront or negotiate our feelings within the present context. Artists chronicle moments in time making it essential to live in the moment.
The artists selected for this exhibition have a passion for relishing in small or large moments, attempting to compromise with the busy and chaotic world in which we are constantly immersed. In the Moment presents works that depict moments in time that illustrate the importance of living your life in detail and appreciation. The selected works are paintings or drawings as these two-dimensional presentations are uniquely constrained to depicting singular events that demonstrate the artists’ ability to appreciate moments. It is important that these works are presented together as the demonstrate a diverse array of viewpoints, experiences and moments. The selected artists come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have differing definitions of appreciable moments that are reflected in their work. We hope that people coming to this exhibition leave with a promise to increase their acknowledgement of moments within their daily lives, no matter how big or small.
