CARACAS, Tierra de Nadie.

Exhibition runs Nov. 23 through Dec. 2. A reception will be held Dec. 1 from 6-9 p.m.

"CARACAS, Tierra de Nadie" (CARACAS, No One’s Land) is a Master of Fine Arts thesis of Verónica Aponte.

Aponte's installation piece at the Step Gallery, “CARACAS, Tierra de Nadie,” as Venezuelan exiled, embodies memories dwelling her hometown and recent events and street protests from Caracas.

Pointing the relationship between Urban Caracas Modernism and the unprecedented crisis suffered by Venezuelans, the ideological relationships and tensions started through the influences of the Russian Avant Gardes and U.S. capitalism with the presence of Alexander Calder public art pieces.

Aponte, using an open space layout design by Venezuelan architect Carlos Raul Villanueva named “La Tierra de Nadie,” re-interprets a series of modern public monuments, creating a challenging park area as a personal gesture toward the reclaiming of her Venezuelan Identity, inviting the audience to participate in this ritual as visitors.
