Biography

Pavan Turaga is an associate professor in the School of Arts, Media and Engineering, and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering at Arizona State University. His research spans representational foundations for structured and unstructured data, including time-series, image, video, 3D point clouds and more, and their applications in areas such as interactive systems, machine learning, computer vision, and mobile-health.

He received the National Science Foundation's CAREER award in 2015. He has receieved a Best Paper Honorable Mention from IEEE Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision in 2021, and a Best Paper Award in 2015 from the Computational Cameras and Displays Workshop. He is a senior member of the IEEE since 2014. He was invited to participate in the Emerging Leaders in Multimedia workshop by IBM as a graduate student in 2008, and received a Distinguished Dissertation Award from UMD in 2009. He has been found co-chair of the 'Differential Geometry in Computer Vision and Machine Learning (DiffCVML)' workshop series, as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (2018-2021), and the Elsevier Pattern Recognition Journal (2016-2018). He has served as Program co-chair of the IEEE Face and Gesture (FG) 2021, Senior Program Committee Member of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), 2019, and as Technical Area Chair, Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers 2019.

He is affiliated with several centers at ASU including the Center for Sensor, Signal, Information Processing (SenSIP), the Center for Human, Artificial Intelligence, and Robot Teaming (CHART), and the Center for Innovation in Healthy and Resilient Aging (CIHRA).
