Biography

Kimberlee Swisher is a clinical assistant professor in the school of Arts, Media and Engineering (AME), and co-director of the Digital Culture Summer Institute, a 3-week summer program for kids 12 to 18. She holds a master's of music in interdisciplinary digital media, and is broadly interested in the careful crafting of technology and how it influences on culture and youth, especially at the intersection of play, music, and embodied experiences; for example, modifying off-the-shelf motion capture gaming devices into unique gestural instruments. Her research and artistic interests are centered around pedagogy and working with kids and learners of all ages.

In addition to teaching at the university level, she has taught K-12 music and technology and developed curriculum for several schools and after-school programs in California and Arizona.
