4 dancers selected to represent ASU at regional conference

Four Arizona State University dance students  Kyla Kabat, Isabella Lepp, Karla Marquez and Fernanda Viera — have been chosen to represent ASU at the 2022 American College Dance Association (ACDA) regional conference, which will be held at the University of Oregon starting March 23. The conference brings students and faculty together to share responses to choreography and performance.

Audi Miller, who is graduating this May with a degree in dance from the School of Music, Dance and Theatre, came to Arizona State University after completing her freshman year of college in California. A native of Arizona, she wanted to be closer to home.

Julia Chacón is graduating from Arizona State University in May with an MFA in dance and an MA in creative enterprise and cultural leadership, and beginning her requirements as a doctoral candidate in the Theatre and Performance of the Americas program. 

ASU alumna awarded two prestigious conducting fellowships

During a year with little to no opportunities in the conducting field, Argentinean-born Arizona State University music alumna Michelle Di Russo has been awarded two esteemed conducting fellowships. Di Russo has been selected to participate as a conducting fellow in the 2020-21 Project Inclusion with Chicago Sinfonietta and the Dallas Opera Hart Institute for Women Conductors.

Di Russo earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the School of Music, Dance and Theatre in spring 2020.

ASU alumna using network, language skills to help besieged Ukrainians

An Arizona State University alumna whose dissertation focused on Ukraine’s first female composer and who studied Ukrainian in Kyiv through the ASU Melikian Center has become deeply involved in humanitarian and anti-war efforts in Ukraine. 

Erica Glenn, a visiting professor at BYU-Hawaii, will travel to Poland next month on a Fulbright grant to conduct research and assist refugees who have been displaced.

ASU athletic bands director receives Arizona Educator of the Year Award

James “Hud” Hudson, director of Arizona State University’s athletic bands and professor of practice in the School of Music, Dance and Theatre, received the 2023 Arizona Educator of the Year Award at the Arizona Music Educators Association’s (AMEA's) annual conference.

The award is the highest honor bestowed by AMEA, with the recipient exemplifying excellence in teaching, leadership and advocacy for music and arts education in Arizona.
