New Students: Fall Welcome 2014

We are gearing up for a wonderful Fall Welcome program full of activities for you as new students in the Herberger Institute. We encourage you to attend these special sessions, which are devoted to providing you with necessary information for your specific major within the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

All Institute Welcome - Required for Freshman
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 9–9:45 a.m. | ASU Gammage Auditorium
Your fall welcome activities in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts begin with the welcome assembly. New students and parents will have the opportunity to meet deans, faculty, academic staff and unit leadership.

The Sun Devil WelcomeRequired for Freshmen
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1–3 p.m. | Wells Fargo Arena
A must-attend event for all new freshmen across all campuses, being hosted on the Tempe campus. Programming for the show begins at 1 p.m. Hear from ASU President Crow about the exciting opportunities that await you, learn the ASU fight song and more about the amazing class of 2018!

Arcadia Residential Community Welcome – Required for Arcadia Residents
Monday, Aug. 18, 9–11 a.m. | ASU Art Museum
All residents of the Arcadia Residential Community for Design and the Arts are invited to attend this welcome event designed to provide information on the residential community, introduce you to the community staff who will be working with you during the academic year, and orient you to the programming and opportunities provided within the community. Faculty, staff, advisors and administrators from the Herberger Institute will also be in attendance. Light breakfast and coffee will be served.

Major orientation sessions are divided by school within the Herberger Institute, and you will meet with the administration and faculty within your major. Sessions will be held as follows:

School of Art New Student Welcome – Required
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10:15-11:45 a.m. | ART 220

This is an orientation program for all new majors in the School of Art. You will receive information on degree offerings, student organizations, galleries and other opportunities for students in the School of Art. Lunch will be served.

Arts, Media and Engineering: Digital Culture New Student Welcome – Required
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | Stauffer B125

All new undergraduate students majoring in digital culture should plan to attend this orientation session to learn more about the offerings within the nine concentrations within digital culture as well as have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff and current students within Digital Culture. Lunch will be served.

Cross-Institute Degrees: BA in the Arts and BA in Design Studies New Student Welcome – Required
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | EDC 117

This is an orientation session for all incoming students who plan to pursue the BA in the Arts or BA in Design Studies program. You will receive additional information about the program and interdisciplinary curriculum offerings. Lunch will be served.

The Design School New Student Welcome – Required*
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10–10:45 a.m. | Evelyn Smith Music Theatre

All new undergraduates majoring in Architectural Studies, Landscape Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design and Environmental Design should attend this important orientation session. You will learn about your academic discipline as well as meet faculty and staff from the school. 

*Additional breakout sessions for your individual major will follow this session from 10:45–11:30 a.m.

School of Film, Dance and Theatre New Student Welcome – Required
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10–11 a.m. | Galvin Playhouse
Film, Dance and Theatre undergraduate students are invited to a welcome gathering with faculty and staff which will also provide advisement information, descriptions of special events including the MainStage production season and other student activities. Light refreshments will be served.

School of Music New Student Welcome – Required
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | Katzin Concert Hall

This orientation session is required for all entering music majors who have passed their audition. You will meet other music students, learn about undergraduate student services and gain tips on how to survive your freshman year. Lunch will be served.
