We are gearing up for a wonderful Fall Welcome program full of activities for you as new students in the Herberger Institute and we want to make sure you know about several important meetings taking place. We encourage you to attend these special sessions, which are listed below, devoted to providing you with necessary information for your specific major within the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.
Events are listed in chronological order. Please read through each day’s events and note those events that are required for your major.
Wednesday, Aug. 19, 6–8 p.m. | Galvin Playhouse
Arcadia Residential Community Welcome - Required
All residents of Best Hall, living in the Arcadia Residential Community for Design and the Arts must attend this welcome event designed to provide information on the residential community, introduce you to the community staff who will be working with you during the academic year, and orient you to the programming and opportunities provided in the hall. Light refreshments will be served.

All Majors New Student and Family Welcome Assembly - Required
Friday, Aug. 21, 9–10:30 a.m. | ASU Gammage Auditorium
Your fall welcome activities in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts begin with the welcome assembly. New students and parents will have the opportunity to meet deans, faculty, academic staff and unit leadership.
Major specific sessions:
Major orientation sessions are divided by academic disciplines, and you will meet with the administration and faculty within your major. Sessions will be held as follows:
School of Design Innovation New Student Orientation - Required
Friday, Aug. 21, 11:00–11:30 a.m. | CDN 60
The School of Design Innovation welcomes all undergraduate students who are majoring in graphic design, industrial design, and interior design to attend this important orientation session to learn more about the offerings of the school. There will also be breakout sessions for each major scheduled from 1–2 p.m.
School of Art New Student Orientation - Required
Friday, Aug. 21, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | Neeb Hall
This is an orientation program for all new majors in the School of Art. You will receive information on all degree offerings within the School of Art and have an opportunity to hear from faculty in all of the art disciplines. Pizza will be served.
School of Dance New Student Orientation - Required
Friday, Aug. 21, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | Physical Education Building East (PEBE) 132
All new undergraduate students who have been accepted into the BFA Dance degree program or the pre-dance major must attend. Orientation into the department includes faculty and staff introductions, advisement information, discussion of the student handbook and policies, descriptions of special events and social activities.
School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture New Student Orientation - Required
Friday, Aug. 21, 1–2 p.m. | Neeb Hall
All new undergraduates who are majoring in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Housing and Community Development should attend this important orientation session. You will learn about your academic discipline as well as meet faculty and staff from the school.
School of Design Innovation Breakout Sessions - Required
Friday, Aug. 21, 1–2 p.m. | CDN 60, CDN 68, and the Bridge
Please plan to attend your major session: Industrial Design, Interior Design or Visual Communication (Graphic Design) to learn information about your discipline and meet faculty during this important orientation session.

School of Music New Student Orientations Pre-Audition Music Student Orientation*
Friday, Aug. 21, 1–2 p.m. | Recital Hall, Music E-510
This orientation session is for all pre-audition music students who have not yet passed an audition for the School of Music. You will be given essential information you need for preparing to enter the School of Music. You will meet other students, learn about undergraduate student services and receive audition information, including auditions for ensembles and other important topics.
*If you have passed your music audition, your session is on Saturday.
School of Theatre and Film Student Welcome - Required

Theatre and Film undergraduate and graduate students are invited to a welcome and welcome back gathering with faculty and staff. Information about advising, the MainStage production season, introductions of new faculty and involvement opportunities will be reviewed.
The Sun Devil Welcome – Required for Students
Friday, Aug. 21, 3–5 p.m. | Wells Fargo Arena
A must-attend event for all new freshmen across all campuses, being hosted on the Tempe campus. Pre-show begins at 2:30 p.m. Hear from ASU President Crow about the exciting opportunities that await you, learn the ASU fight song and more about the amazing class of 2013!
School of Music New Student Orientation Music Major Orientation - Required**
Saturday, Aug. 22, 9 a.m. – Noon | Recital Hall, Music E-510
This orientation session is required for all entering music majors who have passed their audition. Music majors who have passed their auditions have no session on Friday afternoon. Rather, you will attend this session on Saturday morning which will begin with a continental breakfast. You will meet other music students, learn about undergraduate student services and gain tips on how to survive your freshman year. We will finish with a pizza party.
**If you have not passed your audition, your session is on Friday.
