Standards Committee Petition Instructions

Standards Petitions can take up to three months to process, therefore students should plan accordingly. Petitions submitted late generally cannot be expedited.

  1. Forms must be typed. Use your current mailing address, as you will be notified by mail of the results of your petition.
  2. State your request in the section marked "LIST SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OR COURSES THAT WOULD BE WAIVED OR AFFECTED". Be specific and brief.
  3. When writing the "REASON/JUSTIFICATION" it may be helpful to think in terms of the following: All College of Fine Arts students must meet requirement "X", why should the Standards Committee make an exception in your case? Describe in chronological order the event(s), which occurred that makes it necessary for you to seek an exception to the rules.
  4. Grammar, punctuation and spelling are important elements of your petition. Your entire explanation must be contained within the section marked "REASON/JUSTIFICATION". Attachments should include supporting documents only. Your petition is a representation of you and your situation. If your request is not accurate and/or complete, the petition will not be reviewed, but will be returned to you for further preparation.
  5. Attach a complete set of transcripts (ASU and transfer), a copy of your Curriculum Checksheet (one from each area if pursuing concurrent degrees) and Program of Study/Declaration of Graduation (if you have earned 87 or more hours) and any other pertinent documents. All supporting materials should be submitted to your advisor for approval. He/she must also sign and date the petition.
  6. Deliver your petition to Dixie Gammage Hall - Room 127 in advance of the next scheduled Standards Committee meeting.
  7. For University requirements, the College Standards Committee will make a recommendation and the University Standards Committee will make the final decision.
  8. Petition results are mailed, not given over the phone.
