Arizona State University, a Research One University, is fulfilling a mandate to "build a comprehensive metropolitan research university that is an unparalleled combination of academic excellence and commitment to its social, economic, cultural and environmental setting," (Michael Crow, President). In advancement of that mission, the Herberger Institute Research Center supports and promotes scholarly inquiry and applied research within the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts for seven schools: Architecture and Landscape Architecture; Art; Arts, Media and Engineering; Dance; Design Innovation; Music; and Theatre and Film. The center also supports the research activities of the Institute's ASU Art Museum, F.A.R (Future Arts Research) @ ASU and Herberger Institute Community Engagement.
The Herberger Institute Research Center mission is to provide a one-stop shop of value-added research-related services for faculty and graduate students. As an institute-wide research center, the center offers assistance to faculty in identifying funding sources; creating research partnerships; advancing proposal development and award approval processes within the university; facilitating the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experience; translating research into applied contextual environments; and communicating the depth and breadth of institute research projects to the community at large. The center supports individual faculty research projects as well as contributes to the creation and coordination of larger special research initiatives for the Institute.
